Overview
As of November 10th, Adobe ColdFusion 2021 has officially reached its End of Life (EOL). This means Adobe has discontinued all official updates, patches, and security releases for this version.
To help customers maintain stability and plan for the future, xByte is offering two paths for ongoing support — Limited Support and Extended Support — depending on your operational needs and upgrade timeline.
1. What End of Life (EOL) Means
When a software version reaches EOL:
- Adobe no longer provides bug fixes, updates, or security patches.
- Vulnerabilities discovered after the EOL date will not be addressed by Adobe.
- License validation changes may occur, potentially disabling EOL licenses.
- Official vendor support channels are discontinued.
While the software may continue to run, environments become increasingly vulnerable and less compatible with future operating systems or integrations.
2. Support Options Through xByte
Limited Support (Default)
All customers with ColdFusion 2021 environments automatically move into Limited Support status unless otherwise arranged.
Under Limited Support:
- Best-effort assistance: xByte Engineers will make reasonable efforts to help within available resources, but ColdFusion-specific troubleshooting is no longer guaranteed.
- Infrastructure support only: Our team will continue to support the underlying environment (compute, network, storage, and OS).
- Upgrade recommendations: Any ColdFusion-related incidents will be directed toward upgrading to a supported version.
- Security and licensing limitations: No security updates or vulnerability notifications will be available from Adobe, and license deactivation is possible.
Best for: Customers who are actively planning to upgrade soon and only need short-term, basic assistance.
Extended Support
For customers who need more flexibility to remain on ColdFusion 2021 temporarily, xByte offers an Extended Support model.
Under Extended Support:
- Hourly-based assistance: xByte Engineers can assist with troubleshooting, debugging, or performance tuning on a time-and-materials basis.
- Remediation support: In the event of a security issue or compromise, xByte can provide remediation services at an hourly rate.
- One-off engagements: Each support case will be handled as a standalone engagement with clearly defined scope and billing.
Best for: Customers who must remain on ColdFusion 2021 due to business dependencies and need expert help maintaining stability.
3. Recommended Next Steps
- Evaluate your upgrade plan.
Upgrading to ColdFusion 2023 or moving to a managed ColdFusion cloud environment is the best long-term solution for security and compliance. - Understand your support model.
Continue under Limited Support or engage in Extended Support when assistance is needed outside of what Limited Support provides. - Contact xByte for next steps.
Our team can provide upgrade options, cost estimates, or Extended Support enrollment details.
4. Risks of Remaining on ColdFusion 2021
- No security or stability updates from Adobe.
- Increased risk of exploits or service disruptions.
- Compatibility issues with newer OS, Java versions, or third-party integrations.
- Possible license deactivation impacting uptime.
